"The hunt for a serial killer sets off bitter police enmities in this lurid but engrossing thriller. Wightman takes standard-issue police-thriller conventions and amplifies them to lurid extremes: The ethnic tensions are more strident, the turf battles between rival police agencies more cutthroat, the scheming of shadowy power-brokers more baroque, the media vultures more cynical, the motivating psycho-sexual perversions more explicit... the author makes his... characters both vivid and sympathetic, and tells their story vigorously."

"In this breakthrough novel, Jim Wightman nails the uncharted universe of greater New York underground. With this handsomely wrought thriller, Wightman surfaces as the Piranesi among today's novelists. Every page bristles with the mordant life-style and dangerous longings of an underclass silk-stocking Manhattan never sees. Riveting!

"...serial killer is very imaginative....dialogues are lively and earthy."

Great Read! What a great read. The plot is tight, the characters are finely drawn and realistic, and there is enough skin-crawling action to keep you turning the pages. I am a big fan of crime fiction and would highly recommend this book to other fans of the genre.

A Page Turner. Don't usually read detective/ mystery books but this was a gift from my husband and I really got into it instantly...Good characterization, moves fast, loved it. Highly recommend it as a very good read.

What I found most compelling about The Holy Kiss was the intricate and wholly realistic political backdrop to the story. Everyone had something to prove and something to gain by finding the killer first. Between the NY & NJ Police Departments, The Port Authority and the various politicians running for office, you really see how the outcome of a criminal investigation can be influenced by special interests. A real page turner.

Riveting
compelling read as you are forced to deal, not only with the horror of the crimes, but with the cracks in the psyches of so many of the characters...it is not just the bad guys who are carrying around internal demons....not an easy book to read, but a riveting one, as you are forced to keep turning page after page, horrified to see what happens next....the dialogue is realistic and the inter-agency turf battles are true to life as well.....the book dares you to finish it, because you have to know, not just what's going to happen to the bad guy, but how the good guys are going to accomplish this with their own demons raging..

"A fresh take on the genre--thrilling, engaging, compelling; with finely drawn characters who grab your attention, this book certainly caught mine. The layered and ambiguous events and emotions kept me turning pages well into the wee hours. I highly recommend this fast paced read"
